About Primary Energy and Secondary Energy

New energy refers to energy sources such as solar energy, geothermal energy, wind energy, ocean energy, biomass energy and nuclear fusion energy etc that have just been developed and utilized or are being actively researched and promoted. Its characteristics is low pollution and large storage. If the new energy pollution is too large, it is not in line with the development direction of human society. If the new energy storage is small, it will be used up in a few years, and it is not the energy that humans are looking for to replace the existing energy.

Classification of New Energy

1.New energy is classified according to development and utilization status

(1) Conventional energy sources such as water energy and nuclear energy.

(2) New energy sources such as bioenergy, geothermal energy, ocean energy, solar energy, and wind energy.

2.New energy is classified by attribute

(1) Renewable energy sources such as solar energy, geothermal energy, hydro energy, wind energy, bioenergy, and ocean energy.

(2) Non-renewable energy sources such as nuclear energy.

3. New energy is classified according to the conversion process

(1) Primary energy, directly from the energy of nature. Such as: water energy, wind energy, nuclear energy, ocean energy, bioenergy.

(2) Secondary energy sources such as biogas, steam, thermal power, hydropower, nuclear power, solar power, tidal power generation, wave power generation, etc.

Type of New Energy

1.Solar energy.

Solar energy has broad sense and narrow sense: narrow solar energy refers to the solar radiation which use modern technology to directly convert; generalized solar energy includes narrowly defined solar energy, and also include indirect access to solar energy, such as atmospheric flow caused by solar radiation - wind energy, Ancient plants form coal and the like.


Solar thermal power generation: mainly to gather the energy of the sun to heat the turbine to generate electricity.

Solar photovoltaic power generation: Combine solar cells together in random size. It can generate electricity independently or on the grid.

Solar water heater: Since the development of the first water heater in China in 1958, after more than 40 years of hard work, China's solar water heater production and sales have ranked first in the world.

Solar cookers: Solar cookers can be divided into hot box type and concentrating type. China is the largest country in the world to promote the application of solar cookers.

2.Wind energy.

Wind energy is the kinetic energy produced by the large amount of air flowing on the surface of the earth. Since the temperature changes differently after the sun is irradiated on the ground and the content of water vapor in the air is different, the difference in air pressure is caused everywhere, and the high-pressure air flows to the low-pressure region in the horizontal direction form the wind. As a non-polluting and renewable new energy source, wind energy has great potential for development and can directly use wind energy to generate electricity.

3.Water energy.

The generalized water energy resources include river water energy, tidal water energy, wave energy, marine current energy and other energy resources; narrow water energy resources refer to river water energy resources. It is a conventional energy and primary energy source. Water energy is a renewable energy source, and is mainly used for hydropower generation. Hydropower converts the potential and kinetic energy of water into electrical energy. The plant which generate power by hydroelectric is called a hydropower plant, or a hydroelectric plant, or hydropower station. The advantages of hydropower generation are low cost, continuous regeneration, and no pollution. The disadvantage is that the distribution is limited by natural conditions such as hydrology, climate and landform. It is easily affected by many factors such as terrain and climate.

4. Biomass energy.

Biomass energy is the form of energy that solar energy stores in biomass in the form of chemical energy, that is, biomass-based energy. The biomass suitable for energy utilization is divided into five categories: forestry resources, agricultural resources, domestic sewage and industrial organic wastewater, municipal solid waste, and livestock manure. At present, human use of biomass energy includes crop straw, fuelwood, etc., which are directly used as fuel; agricultural and forestry waste, animal waste, garbage, and algae, which are indirectly used as fuel. They generate biogas through microbial action, or produce liquid and gaseous fuels through pyrolysis method, they can also make biochar. Biomass is the world's most extensive renewable energy source.

5. Nuclear energy.

Nuclear energy (or atomic energy) is the energy released from the nucleus by transforming its mass. Nuclear energy is now mainly used for power generation, nuclear energy → internal energy of water and water vapor → mechanical energy of generator rotor → electric energy.

6, Geothermal energy.

It is the natural heat extracted from the earth's crust. This energy comes from the lava inside the earth and exists in the form of heat. It is the energy that causes volcanic eruptions and earthquakes. Geothermal power generation is actually an energy conversion process that converts underground thermal energy into mechanical energy and then converts mechanical energy into electrical energy. The geothermal resources currently being developed are mainly steam and hot water.
